Italy’s ruling party introduced a bill on Wednesday (October 8) to ban the burqa and niqab face and body coverings in public spaces across the country. The proposed legislation also calls for financial transparency requirements on religious organisations that do not have formal agreements with the Italian state. But why does the European country want to put such curbs?
